Haha--

So yeah, I left that one unfinished. I must have walked away from the computer. The problem with recounting your daily life for a blog is that you don't often feel like doing it and hen POOF, one day your memory is gone. For me, that day is a lot longer from today, but some people lose all of their memories much faster. Poor souls.

THE REAL REASON I WANTED TO BLOG TODAY:
I have hypothyroidism. At least, I have a really high reading on the TSH level of the test and probably qualify for medication as soon as I can talk to my doctor.

This explains the delay in pregnancy and the stupid weight gain. I've been recording my food like mad and dieting like crazy and working out 5 days a week. . And my scale has barely budged.
Now I know why--stupid thyroid.

This explains not losing weight for the marathon and not losing weight this last month when I've been at the gym.

Boracay``

So I haven't yet blogged about Boracay.
It was the best vacation spot in the Philippines, and I went on 9/11/11--the 10 year anniversary of ...you know.

We went to the trip right after work on Saturday morning.  We were almost late onto the plane, but we made it after a few wrong turns.  Driving in Manila is night quite normal, of course.  Melody's Dad drove us to the airport, and the three of us boarded on Philippine Air. I am sure in a normal situation, I would have had about 90 heart attacks, but in this world, I just had to hope that the other drivers would yield and that we'd make it.
Melody told us the story of how her dad met her husband and how they kept the dating thing a secret for a long, long time.  When her dad totally loved Mike, they announced that they were dating. Of course at that point, her dad couldn't complain. Haha.

I think we were all so tired that we fell asleep a bit on the plane. We woke up and

The thing that I *CAN* do before I turn 30

Lose 30 lbs. It's going to be hard. It's going to be ugly. I'm going to be hungry. I'm going to have to change.... A LOT.

I've been counting my calories. I've been going to the gym. I've been making healthy choices. I've given up alcohol.  What I haven't done, though, is given up some of the hard stuff.

This week, I ate a big brownie and ice cream. (It was low fat and stuff, but that doesn't matter)
Yesterday, I ate a huge amount of fattening and fried tater tots at the bar with my friends.

Those things pushed my calorie count way, way up for the day. I sort of justified the brownie because I'd burned a ton of calories at the gym that night.

But I have 14 weeks before I turn 30. At 2 lbs a week, I can do it.
Rah rah, oh la la la.

I hit some new speed records on the treadmill this week. I feel great!

These are the things I've given up on before age 30

1) Having a size 4, 6, or 8 body
2) Knitting well or finishing a knitting project
3) Getting into an MBA school by age 30 --guess I should have studied and stuff.
4) completing an embroidery project (other than the crappy one for Catherine and half finished one for Holly)
5)  swimming across Lake Calhoun. I guess this was a recent goal anyway
6) Finishing the Century Club (Did I ever really want to do that? Seems like a bad idea)
7) doing any more scrapbooks--though a nice one for Holly's goodbye might be a good idea
8) Crafting. I just don't like doing it much and lack the attention span for it
9) Reading War and Peace.
10) Reading Brothers Karmozov
11) Getting my own boat (too expensive!)
12) re-roofing the house in KC (too expensive)
13) refinishing the second floor woodwork in KC (too impossible)

I guess I can list some other stuff, but it would mostly be book-related or movie related.

But...I *want* that....

Can't you just hear the whiny voice? Mommy, I WANT that?

Yeah, ok... I caved into that voice. After my second stupid trip to the genius bar (this one took 3 hours), I bought the iphone 4s.

MY LIFE IS NOT THE SAME.

Just kidding. My last smartphone  was  the dumb blackberry pearl, in 2009. I replaced it with a cheapo crap phone and Dan upgraded to the Android.

I can play words with friends! I can take pictures and load them to the internet! SIRI and I can be best friends! I can download a calorie counting app that sucks ass and waste $1.99! I can spend a ton of money each month on a dataplan when I should be saving money from my raise!

So, to conclude this post with more American Consumer Whore schlep, I would like to say that I want a few orchid plants and tomorrow, I'm going to Home Depot to buy more potting soil so I can start some stuff indoors.  I would also like to tell you that I want some Aveda Styling Foam. Just so you know.

Washing Machine: Destructed

I guess you can't really call it a washing machine...it was mostly an old wash tub in our basement. At some point, people built a very weird brick structure around it and put some funky doors in to hide the primary waste line and old laundry chute.  We took one look at it and knew it had to go, though our relator and our inspector did not seem to believe it was possible.

When we started, both of us thought we could remove it in a weekend. After all, we'd taken care of business before and figured this would be no exception. After banging and bashing and sledging and groaning and 30000 screws later, we both realized it was going to take a lot longer.

We started about a month ago and now we're done, though! The concrete tub is gone, the floor is bare down to concrete and two studs that will hold the drywall around the primary wasteline later.

Our great finds: Lincoln Logs, green army men, legos, marbles, a poker chip, playing cards....and that's all. I think a little kid threw a bunch of toys down the laundry chute at some point. :)

Back when we were ambitious, we wanted to put a bar in that spot and since the water line is still nearby, we thought we'd make it a wet bar. But now we realize it's not free to put a bar in and we'll just replace it with carpet and have a more open basement.  The kegerator will remain on the other side of our basement wall.

W00t.

Finally, a Resolution I can get behind.

Are you afraid someone will think you're American if you speak openly?

Oh, so funny. It's a quote from Downton Abbey.

This break we've managed to remove more of the planter structure in the basement. I ran 5 miles, biked a bit, did some lunges and went out for NYE with Mary, went for a long and happy Happy Hour and played Settlers of Cataan with Kassi.

Now it's all over--the 4 days of Vacation. This is the longest Dan and I have had off from work in our house in Minneapolis without having to travel somewhere. It's really quite peaceful to have uninterrupted time together.

We found McCoys in St Louis Park today, almost in Minneapolis. Felt just like home. :)
The Iowan Caucuses are coming up tomorrow and I'm hoping that Ron Paul wins. He should be easy for Obama to beat.
